Edhi holds Russian in Dhaka tourney

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's number two Grand Master Edhi Handoko squandered a winning chance only to draw with Russia's GM Krasenkov in an international chess tournament in Dhaka on Sunday.

The tie put Edhi in the fifth place with 4.5 points, three points away from pacesetter GM Mark Hebden of England. Krasenkov stayed safely at third.

With three games left, another Indonesian Ruben Gunawan remained far away from the coveted Master International title despite his victory over local hero Ziaur Rachman on Sunday. Ruben was placed seventh with four points.

Edhi took the pawn advantage halfway to the end game, but committed too many unnecessary moves which allow the Russian to fight back, Antara reported. (amd)
