Eddy Soeparno Urges Energy Ministry to Increase Renewable Energy Budget
Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Eddy Soeparno, has scrutinised the proposed budget ceiling for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) for 2027 during a working meeting of House Commission 12 with Minister Bahlil Lahadalia on Monday (15/6). On that occasion, Eddy highlighted the budget for the New and Renewable Energy (EBT) sector, which amounts to approximately Rp1.5 trillion. He noted that this allocation is smaller than those for the oil and gas and electricity sectors, which stand at Rp11.4 trillion and Rp10.3 trillion respectively. Eddy urged the ministry to conduct an evaluation to increase the budget ceiling for the EBT sector, in line with Indonesia’s commitment to transitioning towards clean and green energy. “We express the hope that the Ministry of ESDM will increase the budget for the EBT sector. This is certainly to demonstrate Indonesia’s seriousness in accelerating the energy transition while reinforcing our commitment to speeding up the decarbonisation of the national economy in the future,” Eddy stated on Thursday (18/6/2026). During the meeting, Eddy also appreciated the overarching theme of the ministry’s 2027 budget, which aims to strengthen energy resilience and justice through programmes such as the gas network, village electricity grids, and the New Electricity Installation Assistance scheme (BPBL). “I commend the government, particularly the Ministry of ESDM, for focusing the 2027 budget on strengthening national energy resilience with the goal of reducing dependence on LPG imports,” Eddy said. “We also express appreciation for the ministry’s budget commitment to building village electricity networks and providing free electricity installation assistance, so that energy justice reaches communities in all corners of the archipelago,” he concluded. The meeting was also attended directly by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and the ministry’s senior officials.
