Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno, has appreciated President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to prioritise the distribution of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme to children who truly need it. According to him, this policy is a realistic step amid the government’s tight fiscal space.

Eddy assessed that evaluating the MBG programme to make it more targeted is very important to ensure that the recipients are students who need it most. He stated that this step aligns with the principles that President Prabowo has always upheld since the beginning of his administration.

“From the start of his government, the President has always worked based on the principle of ‘no one is left behind’, especially for economically vulnerable communities who need it most,” Eddy emphasised in his statement on Saturday (18/4/2026).

According to Eddy, President Prabowo’s bias in prioritising MBG for groups in need reflects the government’s commitment to the principle of social justice.

“This decision reflects the government’s sensitivity to real conditions in the field. Prioritising areas in need is a concrete form of policy based on needs in regions vulnerable to malnutrition or poverty,” he said.

This UI Political Science Doctor assessed that this needs-based approach is important to reduce stunting rates, improve children’s nutritional quality, and support Indonesia’s future human resource development.

“We hope that the provision of MBG in the future is based on data accuracy so that those entitled to receive MBG consistently get the nutritional intake provided by the state,” he said.

In addition to appreciating the policy, Eddy also highlighted several complaints he received during visits to regions regarding the quality and portions of MBG food that did not meet the standards of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

“During various visits to regions, we received input about SPPG that has not been faithful in carrying out its function by reducing the volume or quality of food that is the right of the recipients,” he revealed.

Therefore, he conveyed a firm message to all managers of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) to work diligently and honestly, and not to take shortcuts for personal gain.

“Remember, taking someone else’s rights is not only wrong but also shows the low morals of the perpetrator. Therefore, I urge all SPPG managers to provide the best quality and food service for our children,” concluded this Deputy General Chairman of PAN.
