Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Soeparno, has expressed his highest appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto for his commitment and leadership in driving and directly overseeing the acceleration of Indonesia’s energy transition through the development of solar power plants (PLTS) with a target capacity of 100 GW.

President Prabowo previously inaugurated the groundbreaking of the 100 GWp (gigawatt peak) PLTS project at the Java–Bali Sea Crossing Operation Monument in Gilimanuk, Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Tuesday (25/8).

According to Eddy, the groundbreaking of the 100 GW PLTS is a strategic step that demonstrates Indonesia’s energy transition has moved from a policy agenda to concrete, large-scale development implementation.

“I give my highest appreciation to President Prabowo, who has not only pushed the energy transition agenda but also actively overseen its implementation. The groundbreaking of the 100 GW PLTS shows that Indonesia is serious and committed to building a cleaner, more independent and sustainable energy system,” Eddy said on Tuesday (26/8/2026).

Eddy assessed that the development of the 100 GW PLTS will be one of the biggest breakthroughs in Indonesia’s energy transition journey. The massive development of PLTS capacity will strengthen Indonesia’s position as one of the countries with the largest renewable energy mix in the Asian region, particularly in the utilisation of solar energy.

“The 100 GW PLTS is a strategic leap that will elevate Indonesia to become one of the major solar energy players in Asia. We have abundant solar resources, and we continue to strive to convert that potential into national economic and energy strength,” he said.

He added that the acceleration of PLTS development should also be understood as a strategic momentum to build a domestic green industry ecosystem that will create an increasingly strong domestic value chain.

Furthermore, Eddy emphasised that the need for solar panels, batteries, energy storage systems, inverters, construction, transportation and various other supporting components must become an opportunity to strengthen national industry.

“When we build PLTS on a 100 GW scale, we are essentially creating a very large market. This market must be utilised to revive domestic industry, from the solar panel industry, batteries, electrical components, construction, to various supporting sectors such as contractors, transportation, logistics and other services,” he stressed.

He also emphasised that the scale of the 100 GW PLTS development has the potential to create a large number of new jobs.

For this reason, Eddy encouraged renewable energy investment to provide broad economic benefits for the Indonesian people through increasing workforce capacity, strengthening national industry and involving domestic business actors.

“This is where the concepts of green jobs and green industry can transform from concepts into concrete policies. Through the development of the 100 GW PLTS, we can see how the energy transition creates jobs, opens business opportunities, attracts investment and simultaneously builds new industries,” he said.

Furthermore, Eddy assessed that PLTS development must be integrated with the national industrialisation agenda. The government needs to ensure policies that encourage domestic component levels, technology transfer, human resource development, as well as research and innovation so that Indonesia does not merely become a market for renewable energy technology products.

“On several occasions, I have said that the energy transition must become a ‘feast’ for the domestic renewable energy industry,” he continued.

“Indonesia must become a producer, manufacturer and an important part of the global clean energy supply chain. Therefore, the development of the 100 GW PLTS must go hand in hand with the development of the solar panel industry, batteries, energy storage technology and various supporting industries,” he concluded.
