Eddy Soeparno Invites PBNU to Collaborate on Energy Security and Ecological Preaching
Eddy Soeplant, Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI from the PAN Faction, extended his congratulations to KH Miftachul Akhyar on his re-election as Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU). Eddy also congratulated KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin) on his election as the General Chairman of PBNU for the 2026-2031 term.
Eddy expressed his hope that PBNU’s leadership will strengthen NU’s ability to address various national challenges, including the increasingly tangible environmental and energy crises facing the public.
“I congratulate KH Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam and KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz as the elected General Chairman of PBNU. May they be trustworthy in leading Nahdlatul Ulama and continue to position NU as a moral, social, and religious force that provides solutions to the nation’s problems,” Eddy stated in a written release on Monday (31/8/2026).
As a leader of the MPR, Eddy invited NU to collaborate on building energy security. This invitation includes accelerating the transition to clean energy and fulfilling the constitutional mandate for a clean and healthy environment as a fundamental right of the people.
“I invite [NU] to collaborate in achieving energy security and the transition to renewable energy as part of President Prabowo’s vision and the urgency of ecological preaching. The energy transition must be a path towards energy sovereignty, ensuring Indonesia can meet its own energy needs using our available resources,” he said.
He emphasised that energy security requires a broad social movement, rather than relying solely on government policies and parliamentary regulations. In this context, NU is seen as holding a highly strategic position due to its extensive network of pesantren, scholars, preachers, educational institutions, and communities deeply rooted in society.
Eddy believes that PBNU will expand environmental movements through its network of pesantren and NU communities. He noted that pesantren can serve as real-world examples of eco-friendly lifestyles, ranging from waste management, energy efficiency, and the use of solar energy, to water conservation and the development of community-based green economies.
“I envision NU’s pesantren becoming role models for ‘green pesantren’ that are clean, energy-independent, capable of managing waste, and utilising renewable energy technologies. From these pesantren, this movement can then spread to the wider community,” he remarked.
“We want to bequeath to the next generation not just an Indonesia with a growing economy, but an Indonesia with energy sovereignty, clean air, a preserved environment, and truly sustainable economic development,” Eddy concluded.
