Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno, emphasised five main focuses that must be prioritised in the national energy transition. He conveyed this during a Hearing with PLN at the DPR RI on Monday (13/4).

Eddy assessed the roles of PLN, Pertamina, and private energy business actors as crucial in maintaining national energy resilience while driving economic growth.

The five focuses he emphasised are building domestic energy resilience, promoting high economic growth, reducing carbon footprints, ensuring the cost of the energy transition is economically viable, and also ensuring the readiness of domestic business actors so that investments in the renewable energy sector are fully enjoyed by Indonesia’s industry and manufacturing.

“The energy transition will give birth to green industries and green jobs for Indonesia’s sons and daughters. The industries that are built will create employment opportunities, thereby absorbing formal labour which is greatly needed,” said Eddy in his statement on Monday (13/4/2026).

Eddy also highlighted the plan to phase out Diesel Power Plants (PLTD) as part of the energy transition. He asked PLN to present a clear roadmap regarding the early retirement of PLTD, including technical complexities, negotiations for operational cessation, and potential costs arising.

According to him, the high operational costs of PLTD and toxic carbon emissions are the main reasons for the need to accelerate replacement with more efficient energy such as solar power.

In addition to the PLTD issue, Eddy also requested PLN to provide detailed explanations on the roadmap for achieving the target of building Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW) within two years in accordance with the President’s directive.

“How much land is needed, how much total investment, including battery costs and others. This must be clear. PLN must truly have a mature and credible development plan so that the target set by the President is achieved,” he stressed.

This member of Commission XII of the DPR from the PAN Faction also reminded that such major projects should not end in import dependency. He emphasised the importance of building and utilising domestic industrial capacity so that the energy transition is fully enjoyed by the nation’s children.

“The construction of 100 GW PLTS represents a quantum leap in Indonesia’s energy transition and will position our country as one of the leaders in the renewable energy sector in Asia,” Eddy concluded.
