Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Soeparno, delivered a scientific oration as part of the Graduation and 63rd Anniversary celebrations of Pattimura University (Unpatti) in Ambon.

In front of thousands of graduates, Eddy discussed Indonesia’s position amid the whirlpool of global disruption, including the challenges and opportunities faced by the younger generation.

In his presentation, Eddy stated that Indonesia is currently in a global situation full of major changes across various fields, from technology and health to geopolitics and the environment.

He noted that world history has recorded various major moments that have changed the global order, such as the industrial revolution, world wars, the digital revolution, the development of artificial intelligence, and the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, the world is now once again facing pressures due to geopolitical conflicts, energy crises, and the threat of climate crises.

“It must be emphasised that the current disruptions have a character that is far faster, broader, and has simultaneous impacts across various sectors,” said Eddy in his statement on Thursday (23/4/2026).

“The war in the Middle East and global tensions have disrupted energy and industrial supply chains. The impact is directly felt in the rising prices of various commodities, including energy, food, and transportation,” he added.

Eddy also highlighted the importance of strengthening national energy resilience. He assessed that Indonesia currently faces challenges because fossil energy still dominates, while the transition to clean energy cannot be continually delayed.

“National oil and gas production needs to be increased, but at the same time, the energy transition must be accelerated. Electrification, bioenergy, and the development of new energy sources such as hydrogen and nuclear power are part of the long-term solutions,” he stressed.

In addition, Eddy assessed that global changes will also affect the structure of the labour market. He stated that the energy transition has the potential to give birth to green industries and new jobs or green jobs, but this demands readiness of human resources.

“Reskilling and upskilling are essential. The world of education must be closely connected to industry needs through the link and match concept,” he explained.

At the end of his oration, Eddy invited the younger generation to see disruption as an opportunity, not merely a threat.

“The winners are those who can adapt quickly, spot opportunities shrewdly, and continue to excel amid uncertainty. Never tire of loving Indonesia and contributing in your respective fields,” he concluded.
