Eddy Soeparno Applauds Prabowo's Decision to Lower Industrial Gas Prices
Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno has expressed his appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to lower industrial gas prices, describing it as a strategic and timely step. The policy comes after the President listened to the concerns of business operators and labour groups regarding high energy costs burdening the business sector.
According to Eddy Soeparno, the move demonstrates responsive leadership to the real challenges facing the national industrial sector, particularly labour-intensive industries that have been struggling with production costs. “This decision shows the President heard directly the complaints from business operators facing increased production costs, while also paying attention to the concerns of labour groups about the threat of layoffs,” Eddy said.
Eddy explained that the manufacturing industry is one of the main drivers of national economic growth and absorbs millions of workers. Therefore, maintaining industrial competitiveness through competitive energy pricing is a crucial factor in sustaining production, investment, and employment opportunities. “When energy costs can be reduced, companies have greater room to maintain operations, and the risk of layoffs can be minimised,” he added.
He further stated that the policy sends a strong signal to investors that the government is serious about creating a conducive business climate. “In a global economic situation still full of uncertainty, the courage to take corrective steps like this is very important to maintain the sustainability of national industry while protecting millions of Indonesian workers,” Eddy, who is also a member of House Commission XII, remarked.
Eddy also called on all stakeholders, including the government, business operators, and labour organisations, to continue strengthening dialogue and cooperation in facing future economic challenges. He expressed hope that this policy would mark the beginning of a stronger, more productive, and more competitive national industrial sector capable of creating more quality jobs for the people.
