Eddy Soeparno Applauds Prabowo's Decision to Lower Industrial Gas Prices

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Soeparno, has expressed appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to lower gas prices for the industrial sector. According to him, the decision was implemented after listening to the aspirations of business operators and labour groups regarding the high energy costs burdening the business world. Eddy Soeparno stated that President Prabowo’s move demonstrates responsive leadership to the real problems faced by the national industrial sector, particularly labour-intensive industries which have recently been under pressure from production costs due to high gas prices. He said the policy also sends a strong signal that the government is present to maintain a balance between the interests of the business world and the protection of the workforce. “President Prabowo’s decision to lower industrial gas prices is a strategic and timely step. The President directly heard the complaints of business operators facing increased production costs, while also paying attention to the concerns of labour groups regarding the threat of layoffs,” Eddy said in his statement on Monday (29/6/2026). “This policy demonstrates the government’s alignment with the sustainability of national industry and the protection of jobs,” Eddy continued. Eddy explained that the manufacturing industry is one of the main drivers of national economic growth, absorbing millions of workers. Therefore, he said maintaining industrial competitiveness through the provision of competitively priced energy is an important factor in sustaining production, investment, and employment opportunities. “When energy costs can be reduced, companies have greater room to maintain operations, sustain production levels, and avoid efficiency measures that could potentially impact workers,” he said. “In a global economic situation still full of uncertainty, the courage to take corrective steps like this is very important to maintain the sustainability of national industry while protecting millions of Indonesian workers,” he added. He believes that the policy of lowering industrial gas prices will send a positive signal to investors that Indonesia is serious about creating a competitive business climate. Moreover, certainty of energy costs is one of the important factors in investment decisions, particularly for the manufacturing and processing sectors with high added value. “When the business world sees the government present and responsive to the problems they face, confidence will increase. This confidence is an important foundation for investment, business expansion, the creation of new jobs, and sustainable economic growth,” he said. Eddy also invited all stakeholders, including the government, business operators, and labour organisations, to continue strengthening dialogue and cooperation in facing future economic challenges. “This policy shows that when the government, business operators, and workers sit together to find solutions, the resulting decisions will provide broad benefits for the nation,” he said. “We hope this step will be the beginning of strengthening the national industrial sector to become more productive, competitive, and capable of creating more quality jobs for the Indonesian people,” Eddy concluded.
