Ecstasy pills to be destroyed

DENPASAR: The authorities are waiting for the green light from the Attorney General's Office in Jakarta to destroy tens of thousands of Ecstasy pills.

Chief of the Denpasar prosecutors office said the planned destruction of the illicit drugs would demonstrate to the public just how serious the authorities are about fighting drug trafficking.

On Saturday, the authorities destroyed almost 38,900 bottles of liquor which had been smuggled into the tourist island.

The announced destruction came amid public speculations about what the authorities did with the pills they confiscate, Antara reported. (pan)
