Economy recap: Indonesia-Mercosur PTA plan to safe Bromo access

Various economic events occurred on Sunday (9/8/2026) that remain relevant to revisit this Monday morning. These range from the planned establishment of an Indonesia-Mercosur Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to tourist destinations around Mount Bromo remaining safe for visitors following a land fire. Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that the Indonesian and Brazilian governments are considering the formation of an Indonesia-Mercosur PTA as a pragmatic initial step in strengthening trade relations between Indonesia and Mercosur. Manpower Minister Yassierli said the transformation of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Centres across Indonesia is the front line in preventing workplace accidents. The Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) assessed that labour-intensive programmes can boost job creation and the economy down to the village level. The government continues to strengthen the Koperasi Merah Putih as a driver of the village economy, targeting the completion of 30,000 Village/Sub-district Merah Putih Cooperative (KDMP) units by 16 August 2026. The Head of the Youth, Sports and Tourism Office (Disporapar) of Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Heri Mulyadi, said tourist destinations around Mount Bromo are still safe for visitors.
