Economy and conglomerates

President Soeharto stressed that conglomerates will never hold
the reins of the national economy because the government will
stay in a position of economic control. According to the
president, the conglomerates are not our economic enemies but are
actually assets to country.

We fully agree with the president's statement but we will
always be watchful over how individuals come to form a
conglomerate. We are not against anyone getting rich but we like
to know how they become rich and how they deal with their
financial prosperity.

The crucial point is that the government must have effective
control of the conglomerates' activities, so they will always
follow the "path" which leads to the prosperity of the people.
