The Centre for Islamic Studies in Finance, Economics, and Development (CISFED) has issued a strong appeal to the Indonesian government to actively halt the military aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran.

Farouk Abdullah Alwyni, chairman of CISFED, stated that the escalating conflict in the Middle East represents more than mere geopolitical dynamics; it constitutes a serious violation of international law with the potential to expand into a global conflict and threaten world peace.

“Indonesia can no longer remain passive. As a nation that upholds independence, justice, and peace, Indonesia bears a moral responsibility to uphold international law and reject aggression that damages both regional and global stability,” Farouk said in a statement on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

He called on the government to take firm diplomatic steps. Indonesia should openly remind the United States that the use of military force without legitimate justification constitutes a violation of international law, whilst demanding an immediate cessation of all forms of aggression against Iran.

“Furthermore, Israeli actions that continue to worsen the conflict must be clearly criticised, affirming the consistency of Indonesia’s moral stance and foreign policy on the international stage,” he added.

Farouk also emphasised the importance of long-term strategy. Indonesia is advised to reduce its geopolitical and economic dependence on the United States through strategic cooperation with Muslim-majority and developing nations.

This approach is expected to strengthen national autonomy whilst supporting the establishment of a more equitable multipolar world order, where every nation is treated equally and single-power dominance can no longer permit unchecked aggression.

CISFED also encourages Indonesia to capitalise on the momentum of American public opinion, which relatively opposes its country’s involvement in the conflict, to increase global diplomatic pressure to halt the aggression.

Furthermore, Indonesia is expected to play a role as a regional mediator, bridging dialogue between Iran, Gulf states, and relevant parties to build a security architecture based on dialogue and cooperation.

“History will record the stance of nations that do not remain silent when international law is violated. Indonesia must emerge as an active player that stands for justice, not merely as an observer,” Alwyni concluded.
