Economic round-up: Domestic demand robust, EV incentives imminent
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that growth in car sales is one indicator showing that demand and purchasing power in the domestic market remain robust. Speaking at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday, the minister noted that car sales grew 32.9 per cent year-on-year (yoy) in June 2026, while motorcycle sales grew 1.1 per cent (yoy).
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) recorded that foreign investor fund flows turned positive, booking a net buy of Rp1.62 trillion throughout July 2026, after the domestic stock market had been overshadowed by foreign investor selling since the beginning of the year. Hasan Fawzi, Chief Executive of Capital Market, Derivative Finance, and Carbon Exchange Supervision at OJK, said the improvement in foreign fund flows was in line with the positive performance of the domestic stock market during July 2026.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that President Prabowo Subianto will soon announce the final incentives for electric vehicles (EVs). “I think within two or three weeks from now, the President will launch another stimulus for EVs, including for around 500,000 electric motorcycles and electric cars,” Purbaya said at the GIIAS 2026 event in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday.
