Economic reform needed

Economic reform needed

From Merdeka

There was an interesting hypothesis in the Dec. 5 editorial of Merdeka: "If the monetary crisis comes as an uninvited guest, then the first to be held accountable for that is the government of the country concerned. In fact, what is much more important than setting up stand-by funds is the reformation of the country's economic and political structure".

In the academic world, such a hypothesis is assumed to be true in the context of the presentation of an opinion, although its truth has yet to be proven.

In some Asian countries, certain parties have perceived political reform as a "ghost" because they wanted to maintain their status quo, old habits and traditions that had been existing for generations.

Whether or not economic and political reforms could take place depends entirely on the attitude and vision of the next People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).
