Economic growth must be accompanied by higher productivity : Bappenas
Speaking at a National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas)-Asian Development Bank Institute conference in Jakarta, Febrian said productivity, innovation, human capital, industrial capacity and resilient institutions are key to strengthening the economy.
He said the global economy faces challenges including geopolitical tensions disrupting trade and investment, technological shifts affecting production and jobs, climate change and the energy transition.
Long-term development should therefore build an economic foundation capable of adapting to these changes, Febrian said.
The government has set its development strategy through the National Long-Term Development Plan and Indonesia Golden Vision 2045, aiming to escape the middle-income trap and reach high-income status.
Febrian said the vision must translate into concrete policies that raise productivity, accelerate innovation, improve human resources and strengthen institutions supporting decades-long economic transformation.

Development planning should go beyond producing policy documents and instead improve government decision-making, ensuring policies rely on data and evidence, he said.
Planning should also help authorities assess potential scenarios, coordinate across sectors and adjust policies as economic and other conditions evolve.
Febrian said each country follows a different transformation path shaped by its industrialization experience, productivity growth, infrastructure, human capital and institutional development.
Indonesia does not need to copy other countries’ approaches but can draw lessons from their experiences across the region, he said.
The conference provides a forum to examine issues affecting development sustainability, including macroeconomic stability, structural transformation, productivity, economic resilience and the green transition.
It also addresses human-resource development and institutional capacity, areas Febrian said are essential to supporting Indonesia’s long-term economic transformation.
