Ecological 'THR': Unique Way Police Celebrate First Day of Lebaran in Dumai, Riau
Riau Regional Police, along with its district and sub-district units, celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah in a unique manner. Rather than providing THR in the form of money, officers in Dumai Timur, Dumai City, distributed holiday plants (THR) in the shape of tree saplings.
The distribution of the trees took place after Eid prayers at the field of the Halimatus’diyah Muhammadiyah Orphanage SMP-SMA, Jalan Janur Kuning, Gang Ikhlas, Jayamukti Ward, Dumai Timur Sub-district. For information, some residents performed Eid al-Fitr prayers on 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah on Friday (21/6/2026).
Dumai Police Chief, AKBP Angga F Herlambang, in his statement, emphasised that the activity is a concrete step by the Indonesian National Police in building an environmentally friendly culture based on community participation.
“We utilise the Eid al-Fitr momentum to instil values of environmental care through the distribution of tree saplings to the community. This is not merely symbolic, but a real invitation for the community to jointly preserve nature for a better future,” said Angga, in his statement on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Furthermore, he stressed that the Green Policing programme in the Dumai Police jurisdiction will continue to be intensified through various preventive and educational activities, including greening efforts, environmental campaigns, and active community involvement in maintaining ecosystems.
The event was led by Dumai Timur Police Sub-district Chief, Kompol DR Aditya Reza, and his team up to the Community Policing Officer for Jayamukti Ward. The presence of police officers among the community after Eid prayers created an atmosphere of emotional closeness while strengthening synergy between the Indonesian National Police and residents.
During the event, tree saplings were distributed symbolically to the congregation as a form of ‘Ecological THR’, which not only carries ceremonial meaning but also a sustainable message regarding the importance of environmental preservation.
Kompol DR Aditya Reza stated that this programme is part of the implementation of the Green Policing concept, which positions the police not only as security guardians but also as a driving force for environmental awareness in the community.
This initiative received a positive response from the community, who viewed the distribution of ‘Green THR’ as a creative and inspirational step in interpreting the day of victory, not only spiritually but also through real contributions to environmental sustainability.
