Eco-friendly Solar Lights Emerge as a Modern Choice
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Solar-powered lights are becoming a modern choice for urban and rural residents, fitting the design of contemporary homes that prioritise energy efficiency and low maintenance. They are also part of a growing eco-friendly lifestyle trend.
“The trend of using solar lights actually began to emerge several years ago, but mass adoption has only really taken place this year,” said M Muhdi Faisal, brand manager at electrical equipment manufacturer MEVAL, in Jakarta on Friday.
He said the shift was driven by greater public confidence in the durability of batteries and the affordability of products on the market.
The company has recorded increased use of solar-powered lights in 2026. The products are considered more efficient and environmentally friendly, and use solar-light technology for outdoor areas such as gardens, terraces and house fences.
According to Faisal, the trend began in 2024 but surged this year.
“In 2024, many suppliers were already importing solar-powered lights like these from China. But there were not many, and demand was still limited because of concerns about the batteries,” Faisal said.
“Batteries have a lifespan, and people had not yet put their trust in them. It was only in 2026 that they realised the batteries were actually durable,” he added.
He said increasingly competitive prices were also a major factor behind the trend’s growth in the lifestyle and home décor sectors.
“Now the products have really been refined: they are affordable and their specifications are good. Going forward, in 2027, I think the lighting industry will move in that direction, towards solar-powered products,” Faisal said.
He said the trend was popular not only among urban residents seeking eco-friendly home aesthetics, but was also spreading to areas where infrastructure efficiency was needed.
Solar lights, he said, offer a practical outdoor lighting solution without the need for complicated wiring or adding to monthly electricity bills. In response to this lifestyle shift, electrical equipment manufacturers, including MEVAL, are showcasing solar-light ranges such as Tera Solar Light.
Faisal said the outdoor lighting product, which has an IP65 weather-resistance rating and can operate for up to six hours, was designed to make it easier for homeowners to switch to environmentally friendly energy.
He said the move underscored that the transition to a sustainable lifestyle was no longer complicated. By harnessing sunlight during the day to provide lighting at night, homeowners can enjoy a modern aesthetic while independently helping to reduce their carbon footprint, starting with their terrace.
“Many people are looking for lights that are durable, energy-efficient and still pleasing to look at. With Tera Solar Light, we want to show that choosing clean energy can be as simple as replacing a light on the terrace,” Faisal said.
“And because a home needs more than just lights, we also offer switches and sockets, so Indonesian families can meet their household electrical needs from a single brand they trust,” he added.
