Jakarta, VIVA – PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk (Unicharm), through its Charm sanitary pad product line, has once again demonstrated a tangible commitment to environmental sustainability in conjunction with World Environment Day.

This commitment has been realised through a menstruation and environmental education programme titled ‘School to School Extra Maxi’, which has been running since April 2026 and has reached more than 2,000 junior and senior high school students in the Jakarta area.

As the culmination of the series of events marking World Environment Day, Charm launched a limited-edition product, the Charm Extra Maxi Bio Materials Eco Friendly Package, in environmentally friendly paper packaging.

“This innovation reinforces Unicharm’s implementation of its slogan, ‘Ethical Living for SDGs’, in providing responsible consumption solutions,” said Charm Brand Ambassador Syifa Hadju in a statement on Monday, 7 September 2026.

She said that amidst her busy schedule, she always tries to bring her own tumbler and tote bag to reduce single-use plastics. In addition, Syifa admitted she has begun reducing paper usage by switching to digital scripts, for example using a tablet rather than printing out thick documents.

“When it comes to choosing products, I always try my best to pick environmentally friendly ones, one of which is Charm, which has been launching eco-friendly sanitary pads for years,” said Syifa.

“Through these small things, I believe that big changes for the earth and the environment can start from our daily lives,” she said.

Data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (SIPSN KLHK) shows that national waste generation in Indonesia in 2025 reached more than 30 million tonnes. Without efforts to change, this figure will continue to grow and burden the environment.

To anticipate broader impacts, one step that can be taken is to educate the public to adopt a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, for instance by practising the 3R behaviour (reduce, reuse, recycle).

This is what prompted Charm, a product that meets an essential need for women, to take an active role and go directly into the field to provide education. This time, its efforts have been focused on junior and senior high school students in Jakarta through the “School to School Extra Maxi” programme.
