Ebola Outbreak in DR Congo Kills 1,521, Risk Remains High

The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has surpassed 1,500, the country’s Ministry of Communication and Media announced on Thursday. As of today, there are 3,442 confirmed cases, including 797 patients in isolation or hospitalised, 615 people who have recovered, and 1,521 deaths. The case fatality rate stands at 44 per cent, the ministry stated on platform X. Previously, on 17 May, the WHO declared the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern. The UN body assessed the risk of the outbreak spreading to a wider region as still high, requiring the strengthening of response and surveillance measures in affected countries.
