Ebola Death Toll in DR Congo Reaches 625

The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 625, the country’s Ministry of Communication and Media reported. There have been 1,792 confirmed cases, while the number of patients who have recovered stands at 295. Health Minister Roger Kamba announced that the government has added two provinces, Tshopo and Haut-Uele, to the list of affected areas after two cases were detected in each province. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern in May 2026. The UN agency assessed the risk of further spread in the region as high. A total of 1,759 confirmed cases have been recorded in DR Congo since the outbreak was declared in mid-May, with a fatality rate of 34 per cent. The case fatality rate has risen by one percentage point compared to the previous report, reaching 26.3 per cent.
