Easy Ways to Clear Your Name from OJK SLIK and BI Checking

Credit history within the Financial Information Service System (SLIK) of the Financial Services Authority (OJK)—formerly known as BI Checking—has become one of the most crucial considerations for banks and financial institutions when determining an individual’s eligibility for financing.

The worse your credit score, the lower your chances of loan approval. Furthermore, loan data from peer-to-peer (P2P) lending or online loan services is now recorded in the OJK SLIK, meaning online loan payment histories also influence an individual’s credit quality assessment.

Before these strict screening regulations were implemented, the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI) revealed that approximately 40% of Home Ownership Credit (KPR) applications were rejected due to applicants having poor credit scores, partly triggered by online loan arrears. Beyond hindering access to financing, the OJK has also highlighted that several job seekers have failed to secure positions at their dream companies due to credit record constraints in the SLIC.

The Executive Head of Supervision for Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions, and Other Financial Service Institutions at the OJK, Agusman, explained that data in the SLIK can be updated if debtors have settled their obligations or taken steps in accordance with applicable regulations.

The public is now encouraged to routinely check their SLIK status independently to understand their financial condition before applying for new loans.

Understanding Credit Score Categories in OJK SLIK

Based on information from the official Pegadaian website, OJK SLIK scores are divided into five categories:

  • Score 1 (Current Credit): Very good payment history, no arrears.

  • Score 2 (Special Mention): Payment delays between 1 to 90 days.

  • Score 3 (Substandard): Payment delays between 91 to 120 days.

  • Score 4 (Doubtful): Payment delays between 121 to 180 days.

  • Score 5 (Loss/Bad Debt): Payment delays exceeding 180 days.

It should be noted that banks generally only approve potential debtors with Scores 1 and 2. Meanwhile, customers in categories Score 3, 4, and 5 must first improve their credit records.

How to Check Credit Scores Independently

Individuals can check their credit history online through the official iDebKu service by accessing the idebku.ojk.go.id website.

Steps to Clear Bad Credit Records

If you already have a poor credit record, here are the ways to recover it:

  • Settle All Arrears: If the bad record arises from unpaid debt, the only way out is to fully settle all such financial obligations.

  • Request a Certificate of Settlement (SKL): After instalments or debts are paid, ensure you request a Certificate of Settlement from the lender (bank, financing institution, or legal online loan platform) as valid proof.

  • Monitor Data Updates: Generally, the process of updating data status in the OJK SLIK system takes a maximum of 30 working days after your obligation is declared settled. You can use the SKL as a reference when applying for new loans in the future.

  • Clarify Data Errors: If your credit score is poor not due to arrears but due to system errors or incorrect data from the bank, immediately file an objection or report to the relevant financial institution so that your data can be revised promptly.
