Easter Message from Tuka Church in Bali: A Moment of Resurrection Amid Middle East Conflict
The Easter celebration at the Holy Trinity Parish Church in Tuka, Dalung Village, North Kuta, Badung, took place solemnly with a strong message on humanity. The Head Pastor of Tuka Parish emphasised that the resurrection of Christ should serve as a spark to build good relations and realise world peace.
“Especially in the current war situation (in the Middle East), what we need is nothing other than peace. The resurrection of Christ renews our humanity to build good relations with God, fellow humans, and the environment,” said the Head Pastor of the Holy Trinity Parish in Tuka, Romo Paskalis Nyoman Widastra, on Sunday (5/4/2026).
The Easter moment also received special attention for the victims affected by various current global conflicts. Romo Paskalis mentioned that the church consistently prays for the world situation to return to conducive conditions through the spirit of resurrection.
“We pay attention to the victims of those conflicts. Therefore, in this year’s Easter, we emphasise prayers for world peace,” he said.
The worship at this old and first church in Bali was attended by local Balinese worshippers as well as from various regions in NTT, Java, and Sumatra who live in Bali. Despite coming from different backgrounds, all worshippers appeared devout in following the series of processions that peaked starting from Saturday night.
The Easter series in this parish has begun since the Lenten season for 40 days filled with traditions of abstinence and fasting. Worshippers also went through the Holy Week procession including Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, up to Good Friday before entering the day of victory.
“The Lenten season began with Ash Wednesday as a sign of repentance and for five weeks we prepared ourselves. After that, we entered Holy Week which began with Palm Sunday to welcome Jesus entering Jerusalem,” he explained.
On this Sunday, worshippers were also invited to renew their baptismal promises as a form of their faith commitment. This, according to the pastor, is done as a reminder of the responsibilities of Catholics in community life.
“There is the renewal of baptismal promises by the worshippers full of meaning. This is a form of commitment to life as a church member and also their commitment in the midst of society,” concluded Romo Paskalis.
