Easter masses at refugee camps

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara : Forty-nine thousand East Timorese refugees observed Good Friday with modest masses at their camps in Noelbaki and Tuapukuan in Kupang island.

The services were presided over by the camp leaders.

Some East Timorese, who left their homeland in 1999 to flee from violence, said they prayed at the camps and placed candles at the corners of their makeshift homes.

"We feel that the Easter celebration this year are as impressive as last year's. This is the second time we held Easter masses at our camp," one of the refugees, Beni Parera, said. (33/emf)
