Easter Celebrations 2026 Secure and Orderly, Religious Leaders Appreciate South Sumatra Police
All Easter worship services in South Sumatra proceeded safely, orderly, and devoutly. Christian and Catholic religious leaders in South Sumatra expressed appreciation for the presence of Polda Sumsel and TNI personnel.
In Palembang, appreciation for the police was voiced by Father Hyginus Gono Pratowo of St Joseph Parish Church. Representing the Catholic congregation, he highlighted the comfort of worship experienced since the start of Holy Week, thanks to the collaboration of security forces.
“On behalf of the entire Catholic congregation of St Joseph Parish in Palembang, I extend our deepest thanks for the extraordinary attention and support from the police and TNI. We felt very comfortable worshipping from Palm Sunday until this Easter celebration. Everything happened due to the excellent cooperation,” said Father Hyginus in a statement received by detikcom on Sunday (5/4/2026).
Similar appreciation was expressed by Yudeta Agus Rianto, Shepherd of the Indonesian Evangelical Christian Church (GKII) in Lahat City. He praised the readiness of local police personnel.
“All worship series, both Good Friday and Easter, ran well, safely, and smoothly. May the Lahat Police Chief and all his personnel always receive God’s blessings and continue to excel in carrying out their duties,” he said.
The same sense of security was felt by the congregation in South OKU Regency. Pastor Dini Memahani expressed gratitude because the congregation could celebrate the resurrection of Jesus without worry.
“Thanks to the security provided, the entire series of resurrection celebrations of Jesus could be carried out well, safely, and comfortably,” she stated.
In Muara Enim Regency, extra security at various worship locations, both in churches and public facilities, also received praise. Pastor Hezekiel Utagalum from GPdI Muara Enim emphasised that the congregation felt very conducive during the worship without any obstacles.
The same sentiment was expressed by Pastor Joni Siaan from GBI MPI Muara Enim. He appreciated the Muara Enim Police Resort personnel who secured the Easter worship at Griya Serasan Sekundang Hotel.
It is known that South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, accompanied by several Main Officials (PJU) of Polda Sumsel and the Palembang Metropolitan Police Chief, directly inspected St Joseph Church in Palembang. This preventive step and direct inspection were also carried out simultaneously by all Police Chiefs in South Sumatra in their respective jurisdictions.
Polda Sumsel deployed 2,671 combined personnel to secure the 2026 Easter celebrations. The force, consisting of 2,425 police personnel and 246 TNI personnel, was structured and deployed to secure 404 church points spread across all regencies/cities in South Sumatra.
