East Sumba Police Destroy 2,270 Litres of Alcohol Ahead of Eid
The East Sumba Police Regional Office (Polres) in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) has destroyed 2,270 litres of illegal alcoholic beverages (miras) of various brands. This action was taken to maintain public order and safety ahead of the Eid 2026 celebrations.
“That is correct, it relates to maintaining public order and safety ahead of the Eid 2026 celebrations. Essentially, that is the purpose,” said East Sumba Police Chief AKBP Gede Harimbawa in an interview on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
Gede explained that the thousands of litres of alcohol were seized through operations conducted since 2025 in the East Sumba Police jurisdiction. The breakdown includes 1,520 litres of peci (local distilled alcohol), 350 litres of moke, and 400 litres of peci raw material.
In addition to the destruction, the East Sumba Police Regional Office has also intensified preventive efforts with the community to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol whilst minimising crime rates.
“We are conducting this ahead of Eid 2026. We will continue to conduct raids on alcohol and narcotics in East Sumba,” explained the former Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the NTT Regional Police.
According to Gede, the destruction represents the police’s commitment to curbing the circulation of illegal alcohol in order to maintain a safe and conducive public order situation.
“Since 2025, we have already intensified alcohol raids so that the people of East Sumba remain safe without disruption,” concluded Gede.
