East OKU Regency Recruits Prospective Students for People's School
The East Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency Government in South Sumatra is recruiting prospective students for the People’s School from families in need and out-of-school children in the region.
The Head of the Protection and Social Security Division (Linjamsos) of the East OKU Social Services Office, Andi Candra, in Martapura, South Sumatra, on Saturday explained that the People’s School is one of the national strategic programmes launched by President Prabowo Subianto through the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) with the aim of equalising access to education for underprivileged children.
In East OKU Regency itself, the People’s School will temporarily occupy the Rusunawa building on Jalan Adi Wiyata, South New City, Martapura Subdistrict.
“Currently, registration for new students at the People’s School for primary, junior high, and senior high school levels has been open since 10 April until 10 May 2026,” he said.
The selection process for new student admissions will be carried out in stages by a competent committee.
“After the registration period closes, the committee will conduct administrative selection and verification of documents. Accepted students will be announced on 25 May 2026,” he stated.
The People’s School itself is designed with a dormitory-based education system (boarding school) with various advantages that are entirely free, from education costs, accommodation, to students’ daily needs.
The implemented curriculum is holistic, covering academics, leadership, life skills, character building, as well as nationalism values.
“We have also prepared a plot of land measuring 8.4 hectares located near the rusunawa for the construction of a permanent People’s School building,” he said.
He hopes that with the existence of the People’s School, it can become a solution for children who have dropped out of school, including those who are delayed in continuing their education due to family economic reasons.
