East Kalimantan Resident Discovers Coal While Digging Yard for Septic Tank
A resident discovered coal while digging a hole for a septic tank on her home’s terrace. The incident occurred in East Kalimantan (Kaltim).
Quoted from detikProperti, the event went viral on TikTok under the account @zaramedina11. She explained that her home was undergoing renovations to the bathroom, terrace, and the construction of a septic tank at the time. The workers digging the hole for the septic tank found coal at a depth of less than 1 metre.
“We were building a new septic tank in the front. So when Pak Tukang was digging, at about 60 cm depth, there was really dense black coal,” said Zara to detikProperti on Sunday (26/4/2026).
She explained that the coal discovery did not halt her home renovations. The new septic tank was still built in the yard, and the found coal was used to fill the old septic tank.
“The coal has already been put into the old septic tank,” she said.
Zara also mentioned that finding coal is a common occurrence. Even after her video went viral, no parties, including the government, have come by. She suspects that no one is interested in mining coal there due to the dense population settlement.
“Under this house, it’s all coal, and we’ve been living here for almost 30 years. Alhamdulillah, it’s safe, the downside is that the house is just hot,” she added.
