East Kalimantan Provincial Government Mandates Official Permits for Childcare Institutions
Samarinda (ANTARA) - The Department of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A) of East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) has emphasised that every childcare institution (daycare) must possess official legality to guarantee the fulfilment of children’s rights and safety while in the care environment.
Acting Head of DP3A Kaltim, Anik Nurul Aini, in Samarinda on Friday, stated that based on evaluations, the prevalence of child abuse cases in unlicensed institutions serves as a stark warning to all parties.
She expressed serious concern regarding cases at childcare facilities that have recently gone viral on social media.
“These incidents serve as a crucial reminder of the urgency of child protection, particularly in childcare services that should provide a safe and comfortable space for their growth and development,” Anik said.
Anik stressed that every institution must hold official certification as the primary requirement for operations.
This includes aspects of caregiver competency to ensure that carers have the appropriate background and expertise, as well as service standards involving the strict implementation of daily childcare regulations, and comprehensive oversight reinforcement.
According to Anik, this cannot rely on a single agency alone but requires cross-sector synergy involving local government, relevant departments, law enforcement, and active community involvement.
“We will immediately collaborate with various parties to anticipate such incidents not occurring in East Kalimantan. It would be highly detrimental if any daycare still operates without a permit. We have the Child Protection Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD PPA) always ready to handle and provide support,” she stated.
On the other hand, Anik advised parents to be more selective and critical before choosing a childcare facility. Transparency from managers and openness in the monitoring system (such as CCTV access or daily reports) should be primary indicators in selecting services.
Through strengthened regulations and integrated oversight, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government is committed to creating a safe, child-friendly environment free from all forms of violence.
