East Kalimantan Police Arrest Two Drug Dealers, Hunt Supplier in Anti-Narcotics Operation
As part of Operation Antik Mahakam 2026, the Special Team (Timsus) of the Narcotics Directorate of East Kalimantan Regional Police has again uncovered an illicit narcotics case, this time arresting two men suspected of distributing crystal methamphetamine, with the initials AY and S, involved in a narcotics network operating in East Kutai Regency.
From the operation, officers also secured a quantity of narcotics along with communication devices and other items suspected of being linked to narcotics distribution activities.
Director of the Narcotics Directorate of East Kalimantan Regional Police, Police Commissioner Romylus Tamtelahitu, revealed on Sunday (19 July) that the arrests followed a report from members of the public concerning suspected narcotics distribution activities in North Sangatta District, East Kutai.
On Friday (17 July) at around 11.00 Central Indonesian Time, the special team followed up with a series of investigations, eventually securing two men at a boarding house suspected of being a transaction site for crystal methamphetamine.
“From the search of suspect AY, officers found seven clear plastic clips suspected of containing crystal meth stored in drinking straws, with a gross weight of 2.09 grams and a net weight of 0.53 grams,” said Romylus.
In addition, he said, police secured other evidence, including a white iPhone 13 Pro Max mobile phone, a black Oppo mobile phone, a black Redmi 13 mobile phone, two bundles of clear plastic clips, a small white wallet, and cash amounting to Rp2,100,000 suspected of being connected to narcotics distribution activities.
Meanwhile, from suspect S, officers secured a black Oppo mobile phone containing conversations relating to narcotics transactions with suspect AY. Based on initial questioning, suspect S is known to have acted as a courier, assisting in the distribution of narcotics on the orders of suspect AY.
“During interrogation, both suspects admitted to obtaining the crystal methamphetamine from an individual with the initials DS, who has now been placed on the wanted persons list (DPO),” he stated.
He said that, based on this information, investigators continue to conduct in-depth inquiries and case development to expose a wider narcotics distribution network and to hunt down the supplier, who remains at large.
The Narcotics Directorate of East Kalimantan Regional Police continues to carry out a series of police actions, ranging from investigations, arrests, searches, seizure of evidence, questioning of suspects, through to case development to uncover the narcotics network suspected of operating in East Kutai Regency.
He confirmed that the two suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 on Penalty Adjustments, or Article 609 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, as amended under Chapter III, Article VII, number 50 of Law Number 1 of 2026 on Penalty Adjustments.
He said the bust forms part of East Kalimantan Regional Police’s commitment to supporting Operation Antik Mahakam 2026, aimed at suppressing illicit narcotics distribution in East Kalimantan. The force is committed to continuing to eradicate narcotics trafficking down to the roots of the network.
The police continue to develop the case in order to expose all parties involved, including the supplier, who currently remains on the wanted list. The public is also encouraged to play an active role by reporting any misuse or distribution of narcotics in their surroundings.
“At present, both suspects and all evidence have been secured at the Narcotics Directorate of East Kalimantan Regional Police for further investigation. Investigators are also continuing to develop the network suspected of being involved in narcotics distribution in East Kutai Regency,” he concluded.
