The procurement of an official vehicle for the Governor of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) worth Rp8.5 billion is currently the focus of public attention. This procurement is considered to be in contrast with the spirit of budget efficiency that is being promoted by the regional government.

In response to this, the Governor of Kaltim, Rudy Mas’ud, provided clarification. He emphasized that, to date, he has not used the official vehicle belonging to the Kaltim Provincial Government for operational activities in the Kalimantan region.

Focus on Strategic Agendas and IKN

Rudy explained that the luxury vehicle, which has become a subject of debate, is actually stationed in Jakarta. This facility is intended to support the governor’s mobility in national and international agendas.

Moreover, Kaltim’s status as the host of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) has significantly increased the frequency of meetings with central government officials, investors, and foreign delegations.

“Kaltim is now the face of Indonesia. The guests who come are not only from within the country but also from abroad,” said Rudy, quoted on Thursday (26/2).

He added that, as a representative of the region on the national stage, regional leaders require adequate supporting facilities. However, for daily activities in Kaltim, he stated that he still relies on his private vehicle.

“So far, we have not used any official vehicles in Kaltim. What we have and use is a private vehicle,” he added. “Here, I still use a private car; during the fasting month, let’s not gossip.”

In accordance with the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation

Regarding the budget of Rp8.5 billion, Rudy ensured that the entire procurement process has followed the applicable legal framework, namely the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation (Permendagri) Number 7 of 2006 concerning Standards for Work Facilities and Infrastructure of Regional Governments.

In this regulation, the engine capacity of official sedan vehicles for governors is allowed up to 3,000 cc. Rudy emphasized that the unit ordered remains within these technical specifications.

“We follow the specifications that have been set. Regarding the price, it certainly follows the quality of the vehicle,” he asserted.

As of this report, the Kaltim Provincial Government has not yet disclosed in detail the brand or type of vehicle purchased through this year’s budget. (P-2)
