East Java's economy grows 5.72 percent in second quarter, says BPS

Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that East Java’s economy in the second quarter of 2026 against the second quarter of 2025 (year-on-year/yoy) grew by 5.72 per cent.

Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices reached Rp930 trillion, whilst GRDP at constant 2010 prices stood at Rp538.59 trillion.

“All sectors of business recorded positive economic growth except the Mining and Quarrying sector,” said Acting Head of BPS East Java, Herum Fajarwati, at a press conference in Surabaya on Wednesday.

By sector, Mining and Quarrying contracted by 4.89 per cent, whilst the others grew significantly.

The Construction sector grew by 8.41 per cent, and the Information and Communication sector expanded by 7.44 per cent.

By expenditure, the highest growth occurred in the Government Consumption Expenditure (PK-P) component, which grew by 19.35 per cent, followed by the Non-profit Institutions Serving Households Consumption Expenditure (PK-LNPRT) component at 9.24 per cent, and the Gross Fixed Capital Formation (PMTB) component at 8.86 per cent.

The Household Consumption Expenditure (PK-RT) component grew by 5.59 per cent and the Exports of Goods and Services component by 5.37 per cent, whilst the Imports of Goods and Services component, a reducing factor in GRDP, grew by 8.07 per cent.
