East Java's Automotive Market Seen as Strong, Surabaya as Main Growth Driver
Surabaya, Kompas.com - The automotive industry in East Java is considered promising. Surabaya is one of the major markets due to its large economic base and the high number of vehicles. The assessment gains momentum with the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) Surabaya 2026 at Grand City Surabaya from 26 to 31 May 2026. PT Bank Danamon Indonesia together with Adira Finance again appear as official bank partner and official multifinance partner in the event. Regional Corporate Officer PT Danamon, Solaiman Widjaja, said East Java has a strategic position in the growth of the national automotive industry. Surabaya is also described as one of the main drivers of the province’s economy.
“East Java is the second-largest GDP nationally with Surabaya as the main pillar of the province’s economic growth, which recorded 5.87% growth in 2025,” Solaiman Widjaja told journalists including Kompas.com. Solaiman explained that the wholesale and retail trade sector, including the repair of cars and motorcycles, is one of the backbone sectors of Surabaya’s economy. “Surabaya is dominated by wholesale and retail trade as well as repair of cars and motorcycles, which at 26.97% demonstrates the strong role of the automotive industry in the city’s economic structure,” he added. Surabaya also recorded around 3.8 million registered vehicles by the end of 2025. The city is the largest contributor to vehicle sales in East Java. “From these facts, for us Surabaya and East Java are important cities and provinces for Indonesia’s automotive ecosystem and Danamon’s business as a whole,” he added. Solaiman said Danamon and Adira Finance’s participation in IIMS Surabaya 2026 is part of a long-term commitment to support the national automotive industry. “Our participation in IIMS reflects our long-term commitment as a single finance group to consistently support the Indonesian automotive industry,” he said.
