East Java Unemployment Rate Drops to 3.71%, Boosting Regional Economy
SURABAYA, KOMPAS.com – The East Java Provincial Government has recorded a decline in the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) to 3.71 per cent in 2025, lower than the national figure, amid boosts to regional economic growth.
This achievement was presented during the Plenary Session for the Delivery of the Explanatory Note on the Accountability Report (LKPJ) 2025 at the East Java DPRD Building on Monday (30/3/2026).
“The reduction in unemployment by around 90,000 people further strengthens indications that economic growth is aligned with job creation,” said Khofifah Indar Parawansa on Monday (30/3/2026).
“Strengthening human resources and public services. Improvements in human resource quality continue to be driven through various strategic programmes in education and health,” she explained.
On the other hand, the quality of public services in East Java stands at a score of 4.75 on a scale of 5. This figure reflects the professionalism and responsiveness of government governance.
Khofifah added that social development and environmental sustainability are also progressing in balance. This is reflected in the Social Piety Index (IKS) of 77.49 and the Environmental Quality of Life Index (IKLH) of 73.43.
“All these IKU achievements show that East Java’s development is not only growing but also inclusive, equitable, and sustainable,” she stated.
East Java’s contribution to the national economy reaches 14.40 per cent and 25.29 per cent to Java Island, making it one of the main drivers of the national economy.
“East Java also records a contribution of 14.40 per cent to the national economy and 25.29 per cent to the Java Island economy,” said Khofifah.
This growth is supported by sectors such as investment, services, processing industry, trade, and agriculture.
Trade performance has also strengthened, with export value growing by 16.61 per cent, particularly from the non-oil and gas sector.
Transactions from 12 domestic trade missions reached Rp 16.31 trillion, while the overseas trade mission to Singapore achieved Rp 4.163 trillion.
