Enthusiasm among junior high school (SMP/MTs) graduates for the 2026 East Java New Student Admission System (SPMB) is running very high. As of Wednesday (10/6), a total of 315,587 students had completed the PIN collection process, an absolute requirement for registration. Head of the East Java Education Office (Dindik), Aries Agung Paewai, revealed that the majority of applicants had successfully passed the verification stage. “Of that number, 286,382 students have successfully obtained a PIN, or around 90.75% of the total incoming applications. This number is predicted to continue growing,” Aries stated in Surabaya.

Given that the total number of SMP/MTs graduates in East Java this year has reached 618,479 students, the East Java Education Office expects the flow of PIN applications to remain heavy. Aries stressed that the PIN is a vital instrument in the selection process. “The PIN is the primary key to all SPMB stages. Without a PIN, prospective students cannot take part in registration at any stage,” he asserted. The PIN collection phase has been open since 28 May and is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

Concurrently, the East Java Education Office is also holding a registration simulation on 8-9 June 2026 to give prospective students a real picture of the ranking system and their chances of entering their target schools. However, this simulation is limited. Only prospective students who already hold a PIN can participate. The simulation is focused on the Domicile Pathway and the Academic Achievement Score Pathway, for both senior high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) levels.

Regarding technical registration matters, Aries explained that the simulation cannot be followed by prospective students with special conditions who use a Domicile Transfer Certificate (SKPD) due to mutation. The Mutation Pathway will only be available in the second stage of registration. Conversely, prospective students using a Domicile Certificate (SKD) due to natural disasters or those from Islamic boarding schools are still permitted to participate in the simulation.

To minimise technical obstacles in the field, the East Java Education Office has deployed personnel at every educational unit. “Schools already have helpdesks and SPMB committee officers ready to assist and provide training on the registration process. We urge students and parents to utilise this facility so there are no issues when official registration opens,” Aries concluded.
