East Java SPMB 2026 Enters Phase 2: Affirmative to Achievement Pathways Open Tomorrow
The registration process for the East Java Student Admission System (SPMB) 2026 for senior high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) levels is continuing. It has now entered the second phase, with the affirmative action, mutation, and competition achievement pathways opening on Wednesday (17/6) and Thursday (18/6).
Head of the East Java Education Office Aries Agung Paewai stated in Surabaya on Tuesday (16/6) that the second phase was opened after the first phase registration through the domicile pathway was closed. For the second phase, the quota for the SMA affirmative pathway includes 13 percent for underprivileged families, 5 percent for children of labourers from underprivileged families, 5 percent for persons with disabilities, and 7 percent for academic achievement from underprivileged families.
Meanwhile, the SMK affirmative pathway quota includes 7 percent for underprivileged families, 5 percent for children of labourers from underprivileged families, and 3 percent for persons with disabilities. The mutation pathway consists of 2 percent for children of teachers and education staff, and 3 percent for mutation due to parental or guardian work assignments. The achievement pathway from competitions is divided into 3 percent for non-academic achievements and 2 percent for academic achievements, with quotas prepared for each pathway.
The East Java Education Office recorded that out of a total of 213,144 SPMB phase 1 domicile pathway applicants, 54,056 prospective students were declared successful. The breakdown includes 40,786 prospective students accepted at state senior high schools (SMA Negeri) and 13,270 accepted at state vocational high schools (SMK Negeri). The total number of phase 1 registrants was 111,144 for SMA and 101,922 for SMK.
He urged prospective students who did not pass the first phase not to be discouraged, as there are still several subsequent selection pathways. These include phase 2 through affirmative action, competition achievement, and mutation pathways, as well as phase 3 and phase 4 through academic achievement scores for both SMA and SMK.
As an effort to improve future academic scores, the office also emphasised the importance of utilising digital learning. The implementation of online schooling is scheduled to begin on 1 September 2025, with the end date to be announced later. This initiative is the result of cooperation between the Provincial Government and private SMA/SMK schools across the region, established on National Education Day, Friday (2/5).
