East Java Scouts Prepare to Renovate 403 Uninhabitable Houses in Kediri
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Scout Regional Headquarters (Kwarda) will renovate 403 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) in Kediri City through the 2026 East Java Wirakarya Camp, serving as a form of community service involving the government and various stakeholders.
Representing the Chairman of the East Java Scout Regional Headquarters, H.M. Arum Sabil, the Vice Chairman of Kwarda East Java, Arumi Bachsin Dardak, stated that the Wirakarya Camp is more than just a scouting activity; it is a tangible form of service to the community. “Through involvement in the uninhabitable house renovation programme, Scouts learn to be present, care, and provide benefits to their surrounding environment,” Arumi said in a statement received in Surabaya on Wednesday.
During a recent visit, officials inspected the condition of the houses listed as beneficiaries and engaged in dialogue with the families to ensure the programme is precisely targeted and provides optimal benefits. The renovation programme is the result of synergy between various parties. Of the 403 houses to be renovated, 200 units are funded by the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme, 200 units are from the Kediri City Government programme, and three units are from the East Java Scout Regional Headquarters programme.
According to Arumi, synergy between stakeholders is the primary asset for achieving development that directly impacts citizens while strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation (gotong royong). Meanwhile, the Mayor of Kediri, Vinanda Prameswati, expressed appreciation for the support of the East Java Scout Movement in ensuring the success of various social programmes in Kediri City. “We welcome the implementation of the Wirakarya Camp in Kediri City. This activity not only provides character education for Scout members but also brings direct benefits that can be felt by the community, particularly through the uninhabitable house renovation programme,” she said.
She emphasised that the Kediri City Government is fully committed to supporting the 2026 East Java Wirakarya Camp. The camp is designed as a service platform for Rover and Venturer Scouts from across East Java. In addition to character building, participants will be involved in various social and community empowerment activities, including house renovations, environmental conservation, health education, and economic empowerment. Through the renovation of 403 houses in Kediri, the Scout Movement demonstrates that scouting education takes place not only in campsites but is realised through real actions that benefit society.
