The hope is that younger Scouts can learn directly, for example, by making simple solar panels, managing alternative energy in school environments, and understanding sustainability concepts in practice.

Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Scout Regional Council (Kwarda) of the Scout Movement is exploring collaboration with the renewable energy industry in Pasuruan to strengthen the Productive Scout programme through synergies in education, field practice, and the development of environmentally friendly technology.

“We want the Scouts not only to be an organisation strong in character and discipline, but also to have skills relevant to future needs. One of them is through the development of renewable energy,” said Basuki Babussalam, Deputy Chair I for Work Units and Productive Scouts of Kwarda Jatim, in a statement in Surabaya on Friday.

The visit was made to PT Santinilestari Energi Indonesia as a step to bring together scouting education with the industry sector based on technology and sustainability.

This visit is a follow-up to the East Java Scout Movement’s 2026 Regional Working Meeting (Rakerda), which set renewable energy as a priority for the Productive Scout programme, in line with the increasing need for environmentally friendly and sustainable energy.

Secretary of Kwarda East Java Bambang Suyanto emphasised the importance of transforming the Scout Movement to remain relevant with technological developments and to play a role in global issues, including renewable energy as a future need.

“The Scout Movement must be able to adapt and take a role in global issues. Renewable energy is not just a trend, but a future need. Therefore, we will encourage this programme to become a massive movement in the next five years,” he said.

According to Bambang, integrating character education and technology mastery becomes a new strength in producing superior generations.

“This programme is expected to encourage the birth of various innovations from Scout members, such as the utilisation of solar energy, biogas, and other environmentally friendly technologies that match the potential of each region,” he said.

Director of PT Santinilestari Energi Indonesia Sandy Hartono welcomed the collaboration positively and assessed that synergy with the Scout network has the potential to create broad social impact based on renewable energy technology.

“We see this as a very good opportunity. Scouts have a strong network down to the grassroots level. If combined with renewable energy technology, the impact will be very significant for society,” he said.

“We are ready to support. In the future, we can formulate concrete forms of cooperation, whether in the form of training, pilot programmes, or field-based educational activities,” he added.

Chair of Kwarda Scout East Java Arum Sabil previously affirmed that the development of renewable energy is part of the transformation of the Productive Scout programme to build an innovative and environmentally conscious movement.

“Renewable energy becomes a strategic part in building productive, innovative Scouts who care about the environment. This is not just a programme, but a movement for the future,” he stressed.
