East Java Regional Police Launch Investigation into KM Mutiara Sentosa Fire
The Marine and Air Police Directorate (Ditpolairud) of the East Java Regional Police has deployed a team to investigate the fire that broke out on the KM Mutiability Sentosa II in the northern waters of Madura. The investigation is being conducted by personnel assigned to a special task force.
East Java Marine Police Intelligence Chief, Commissioner Riyanto, stated in a written report that an official order was issued on 1 August 2026 regarding the deployment of Ditpolairud personnel to inspect the burnt vessel in Madura waters. βThe investigation and intelligence teams from the East Java Police will be deployed to the Madura maritime area,β said Riyanto.
The authorities will maintain strict monitoring of evacuation movements and field data collection. The specialised investigation unit consists of seven personnel deployed to the site.
KM Mutiara Sentosa II experienced a severe fire while sailing the main route from Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya to Soekarno-Hatta Port in Makassar. Initial reports were received via an emergency call to the Surabaya SAR Office at 08:24 WIB from the Tanjung Perak Harbour Master and PT Atosim Lampung Pelayaran.
A joint SAR team has been deployed, and cross-agency coordination within the maritime sector is underway to ensure the evacuation of all passengers aboard KM Mutiara Sentosa II.
