The Provincial Government of East Java has recorded a positive development performance in the first half of 2026, with economic growth of 5.84 per cent, a reduction in poverty to 9.06 per cent, and a decline in the Open Unemployment Rate to 3.42 per cent, based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

“Alhamdulillah, amidst global uncertainty and dynamics, East Java has managed to record the highest economic growth on Java Island and surpass the national achievement. At the same time, the number of poor people and unemployed has also decreased. This is the result of hard work, synergy, and collaboration of all elements in East Java,” said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa in Surabaya on Thursday.

Khofifah stated that this achievement shows that economic growth in East Java is not only statistically high but also increasingly qualitative because it has a real impact on improving people’s welfare.

According to her, East Java’s economic growth is supported by productive sectors, namely the processing industry with a contribution of 31.27 per cent, trade at 18.49 per cent, and agriculture at 10.87 per cent.

“This achievement is proof that the East Java Provincial Government consistently accelerates community economic activity. Our economic foundation is supported by strong productive sectors, ranging from industry, trade, to agriculture,” she said.

The business field with the highest growth came from the accommodation and food and beverage provision sector, which grew by 10.76 per cent. This growth was driven by increased hotel occupancy rates during the holiday season, increased tourism activity, and the strengthening performance of catering services, including through the expansion of beneficiaries of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG).
