East Java Provincial Government Records Rp 15.25 Trillion in Transactions During Trade Mission with Malaysia
This forum marks the first trade mission organised by the East Java Provincial Government abroad in 2026. The event was attended by around 105 business actors from various strategic sectors, both from Indonesia and Malaysia.
This achievement makes the East Java-Malaysia Trade and Investment Mission the highest transaction value in the history of trade missions organised by the East Java Provincial Government, whether domestically or internationally.
In detail, the total sales value in the forum reached Rp 14,583,187,619,960, with purchases amounting to Rp 19,550,000,000. In addition, the total investment generated from the Trade Mission reached Rp 650,000,000,000.
Several flagship commodities contributed to this achievement, ranging from copper, flour, tobacco, processed food products, coffee, tea, spices, to chemicals. In the investment sector, strategic collaborations were also established, including the development of an integrated quarantine, logistics, and trade service area at Jatim Hub in the Puspa Agro region.
Khofifah views this achievement as strengthening optimism in building economic connectivity between East Java and Malaysia.
“Our meeting today is to build a common perspective on how the entire trade and investment process between East Java and Malaysia can strengthen both parties,” said Khofifah in her statement on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
According to her, the historical and cultural closeness between Indonesia and Malaysia serves as an important asset in tightening economic relations between the two regions. East Java is also considered to have a strategic position as a national economic growth centre.
“East Java’s population may be larger than Malaysia’s, reaching 42.3 million people. Our area covers 36 percent of Java Island. This is undoubtedly a large market. Plus, 80 percent of the logistics supply for eastern Indonesia is supplied from East Java,” she explained.
Khofifah explained that unlike the 2022 trade mission which still focused on exploring cooperation, this year’s implementation has produced concrete transactions expected to be sustainable.
Based on data, East Java’s trade balance with Malaysia in 2025 recorded a surplus of USD 967.06 million, with export value of USD 1.53 billion and imports of USD 572.37 million.
“From flour preparations, soap, preparations, tobacco and cigarettes to wood products and others. Meanwhile, what we import from Malaysia includes plastics and plastic products,” she said.
Carrying the slogan Jatim Gerbang Baru Nusantara, Khofifah hopes that her region’s progress can have a broad impact on other areas in Indonesia.
“That is Gerbang Baru Nusantara. Where No One Left Behind. If there are human resources that are lacking, we encourage them; if there are health facilities that are lacking, we encourage them by building equity in various sectors,” she emphasised.
In the forum, several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and Letters of Intent (LoIs) were also signed between East Java and Malaysian business actors. Among them is the cooperation between PT Greenfields Indonesia and MyTernak Malaysia for fresh milk commodities, pet food, and bird’s nest.
In addition, an LoI was signed between PT Jatim Grha Utama and Saengineersmy SDN BHD regarding the integrated quarantine, logistics, and trade service area development project.
“One-on-one meetings have also been conducted. This is the layering and strengthening that we did before and what has been transacted today. The signed LoIs will be followed up with the hope of even larger scale,” she stated.
Khofifah also appreciated the role of business actors, SMEs, cooperatives, and industries in driving economic growth to penetrate global markets.
“To the SME actors, cooperatives, and industries, thank you for the synergy of all and remain optimistic and spirited. What we are doing is hoped to continue to grow and develop. So that the connectivity between business actors and industries can provide great benefits to the community,” she messaged.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, Raden Dato’ Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo, welcomed the implementation of the trade mission. He views the activity as reflecting a joint commitment to strengthening economic collaboration between the two parties.
“Therefore, the current trade and investment mission serves as the right platform to expand our partnerships and open new paths for collaboration,” he stated.
He also emphasised that the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur will continue to support the follow-up of these cooperations so that they can be realised concretely.
“I am confident that today’s interactions will further strengthen the Indonesian-Malaysian economy, especially through increased regional collaboration,” he hoped.
