Surabaya (ANTARA) – The East Java Provincial Government, through its Education Office, has opened selection for members of the East Java Education Council for the 2027–2032 term. The process aims to find candidates with experience, competence and a vision for addressing the challenges facing education in the digital era.

“Now we are in the digital era, and change is extraordinary. We must look for capable people who are mature in their thinking, have experience and also possess a vision for the future,” Suko Widodo, a member of the East Java Education Council selection team, said in Surabaya on Tuesday.

Suko said incoming council members would need to understand how digital technology is shaping students’ learning patterns and ways of thinking. Teachers and education stakeholders, he said, must adapt their teaching methods to keep pace with developments.

For that reason, Suko hopes the council will include not only education practitioners but also businesspeople, cultural figures and others who can contribute to education development.

“The Education Council does not have to be made up of people from the education sector, but it should include people who contribute to education. I hope it will have a complete range of members, including cultural figures, particularly on matters such as ethics,” Suko said.

East Java Education Office head Aries Agung Paewai said the current council’s 2022–2026 term would end in late December 2026. Selection for the next term is being prepared to continue existing programmes and strengthen collaboration in developing education across the province.

The office hopes the incoming members will have diverse backgrounds, ranging from education practitioners to businesspeople, artists and cultural figures. Such diversity is needed because education development encompasses not only academic matters but also students’ talents in sport, the arts and culture.

A total of 45 people have so far registered as candidates for the East Java Education Council. Applications remain open until 16 October 2026, and the council is expected to have about 11 members.

“We encourage anyone who is interested and wants to work together to advance education in East Java to take part in the selection process,” Aries said.
