East Java Provincial Government Ensures Accelerated Flood Handling in Pasuruan
Pasuruan, East Java (ANTARA) - The East Java Provincial Government continues to foster cooperation and coordination with all relevant agencies to ensure the acceleration of flood handling and the safety of residents in Pasuruan Regency affected by flooding since Tuesday (24/3) night.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, during a visit to Pasuruan on Thursday, stated that the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Jatim) together with the Pasuruan Regency BPBD has undertaken various handling measures, from assessments, logistics distribution, provision of evacuation tents, to the deployment of boats to assist resident mobility in affected areas.
“We want to ensure resident safety and accelerate the handling of flood impacts through various concrete steps on the ground,” she said.
During her visit to the flood site in Bandaran Hamlet, Jarangan Village, Rejoso Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, she explained that this flooding was triggered by high rainfall intensity and overflows from local river tributaries, exacerbated by the geographical conditions that cause water to easily pool.
Regarding this, she said that the East Java Provincial Government together with the Pasuruan Regency Government has prepared 10 water pumps to drain the pooling water out of residential areas.
Khofifah also inspected the community kitchen at the Rejoso Subdistrict Office to ensure readiness in food production and distribution for affected residents.
“We ensure that residents’ consumption needs are well met. Production must be sufficient, distribution even, and food quality maintained,” she said.
On that occasion, she also distributed basic necessities aid to hundreds of flood-affected residents, some of whom had to evacuate due to high water levels.
Based on the BPBD Jatim report as of Thursday, the total number of affected households in Pasuruan Regency reaches 1,148, spread across several subdistricts, including Beji, Rejoso, Bangil, Winongan, Grati, Kraton, and Gempol.
