East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa discussed strategic cooperation with Saudi Arabia, focusing on investment and hajj services to drive economic growth and strengthen bilateral collaboration between the two parties.

“Alhamdulillah, we were received by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Mr Faisal (Abdullah H. Amodi) on Monday (27/4) at the Saudi Embassy Office in Jakarta,” said Khofifah in a statement received in Surabaya, East Java, on Tuesday.

Khofifah revealed that during the meeting, her side had a strategic opportunity to discuss building cooperation in the fields of economy and tourism.

“Especially to open up investment opportunities from industrial business actors in Saudi Arabia to Indonesia, particularly East Java,” she said.

In the meeting, Khofifah emphasised that the cooperative relationship between Indonesia, especially East Java, and Saudi Arabia is expected to develop into mutually beneficial collaboration capable of driving economic growth for both parties.

In addition to investment, both parties also discussed potential cooperation in the tourism, culture, and education sectors, including opportunities for easier mobility through visa-free facilitation for business actors and stakeholders.

According to Khofifah, attracting investment is a strategic step to expand the scope of regional economic growth amid the current global economic dynamics.

On that occasion, Khofifah also conveyed her appreciation to King Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia for his support of Indonesia, particularly in organising hajj services for pilgrims.

She mentioned opportunities for East Java business actors to participate in providing logistical needs, especially consumables for Indonesian hajj pilgrims.

“So there is room for us to serve and prepare logistical consumables for all hajj pilgrims from East Java. Hopefully, in the upcoming hajj season, and even during umrah, the East Java Provincial Government and the Indonesian Government in general will have the opportunity to supply logistics for hajj pilgrims as well as umrah pilgrims,” she said.
