Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jatim) together with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) is ensuring readiness for special search and rescue (SAR) operations during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri period in the East Java region.

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated that readiness must be carried out comprehensively, measurably, and coordinately between agencies, in line with the surge in public mobility during Eid, which has the potential to increase accident risks and emergencies.

“We are ensuring that all elements are in maximum readiness condition, both in terms of personnel, equipment, and coordination systems, so that various potential risks can be anticipated early,” she said while accompanying the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Air Marshal TNI Mohammad Syafii, in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday.

On that occasion, Khofifah and Syafii conducted an inspection at the Integrated Post for Lebaran Sea Transportation Implementation 2026 at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, which is one of the crucial points for public mobility during the mudik and return flows.

The visit is part of the Head of Basarnas’ work series to ensure the readiness of personnel, facilities and infrastructure, as well as strengthening cross-sector coordination in facing potential emergency conditions during the Eid al-Fitr period.

According to her, readiness is not only oriented towards quick response when incidents occur, but also includes mitigation steps and ongoing education to minimise the impact of risks.

On that occasion, Khofifah also encouraged strengthening early disaster education, especially through integration into the education curriculum, which is considered important for building disaster awareness and culture among students.

She also proposed that the momentum of National Education Day on 2 May be utilised to strengthen disaster preparedness in school environments, including through the formation of disaster response teams involving students.

“Early disaster education is important to build strong awareness so that the younger generation has readiness to face potential disasters,” she said.

Governor Khofifah also received a certificate of appreciation from Basarnas for the support of the East Java Provincial Government in the rescue operation for victims of the building collapse at Pondok Pesantren Al Khoziny, Sidoarjo Regency.

The award was given as a form of appreciation for the synergy of various parties in handling humanitarian operations.
