The East Java Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that the investigation into the alleged corruption case involving a contract teacher in Probolinggo Regency has been officially halted. The East Java Prosecutor’s Office will soon issue a letter ordering the termination of the investigation.

“Today, a case review was conducted, led directly by the Head of the East Java Prosecutor’s Office. Considering the recovery of state losses and a sense of justice, it was decided to halt the handling of this case,” said the Special Crimes Assistant of the East Java Prosecutor’s Office, Wagiyo, in Surabaya, Wednesday (February 25).

According to Wagiyo, the follow-up to this decision involves the East Java Prosecutor’s Office taking over the case, but administratively, it will still be handled by the Probolinggo Regency Prosecutor’s Office. Subsequently, the Prosecutor’s Office issued a Letter Ordering the Termination of the Investigation (SP3) Number: Print-238/M.5.42/Fd.2/02/2026 dated February 25, 2026.

Wagiyo emphasized that the termination of the case is not solely based on pity but on legal considerations. “Legally, the act fulfills the elements of violating the law because there was document forgery and it caused state losses,” he said.

However, he added that the purpose of law enforcement is not only certainty but also justice and benefit. The state losses have been recovered, and the person in question has admitted their mistake.

He also explained that the case falls under the category of corruption because the illegal act resulted in financial losses for the state. With the issuance of the SP3, the case is officially halted and declared closed.

Wagiyo explained the background of the alleged corruption case involving a contract teacher in Probolinggo Regency.

BEGINNING OF THE CASE

The case began when the suspect registered as a Professional Village Assistant or Local Village Assistant. One of the requirements for registration was not being bound or working in another institution that receives a salary or honorarium from the State Budget (APBN), Regional Budget (APBD), or Village Budget (APBDes).

“The person in question knew this requirement. However, they still registered and did not resign during the evaluation process,” said Wagiyo.

To meet the administrative requirements, the suspect allegedly forged documents in the form of the principal’s signature and stamp, stating that they were no longer a contract teacher at SD Negeri 1 Brabe. In addition, the suspect also made a statement saying that they had resigned as a teacher.

As a result of this act, the suspect received a double salary, approximately Rp1.2 million per month as a contract teacher and approximately Rp2.3 million per month as a Local Village Assistant. This practice continued until 2025, with a total state loss of approximately Rp118.86 million.

This case came to light after a report from the education department and went viral on social media because it was considered to offend public sentiment. The legal process then proceeded, and the suspect was briefly detained before their detention was suspended last Friday.

The East Java Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office, conducted an evaluation of the handling of the case. On Monday, the suspect had returned all the state losses amounting to Rp118.86 million.
