East Java Prepares State High Schools as Transit Points for 35th NU Congress Participants
The East Java Education Office (Disdik) is preparing state senior high school (SMA) and vocational high school (SMK) buildings as transit points for participants of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress in Jombang, scheduled for 27–31 August 2026.
“We are supporting transit points at schools for congress participants who need rest and prayer, and they may also shower and freshen up,” said Head of East Java Education Office Aries Agung Paewai in Surabaya on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
He said all state senior and vocational high schools across East Java are providing support by preparing school facilities that congress participants can use, particularly given the limited accommodation in Jombang Regency. The facilities include classrooms, mosques, bathrooms, and toilets that can be used for resting, worship, and freshening up before participants continue their journey.
“Our schools are open to all congress participants, both the classrooms we have prepared as well as the mosques, bathrooms, and toilets,” he said. The support is adjusted to accommodate teaching and learning activities.
On 26–28 August 2026, schools in the town sub-districts and Tembelang Sub-district will conduct online learning, so unused facilities can be utilised as transit points. Schools outside those areas will continue with normal in-person learning. Several schools are also preparing light snacks for groups of participants who stop over.
“In fact, several schools are preparing snacks and light refreshments for the delegations transiting at schools located near the event venues,” he said.
