SURABAYA (JP): At least 97 members of the provincial police
are suspected of being drug users, East Java Police chief M.
Dayat said here on Thursday.
The alarming findings were discovered during a two-month
internal investigation into the provincial police ranks.
Seven are currently being tried on drug charges while one has
been found guilty and sentenced to four years in jail.
Dayat also lamented that even in the academy in Porong,
several cadets were suspected of being users.
At least one cadet is being interrogated and blood tests of 64
others have found traces of illegal substances.
"They should have been setting an example," Dayat said of his
subordinates, adding that he would act firmly against drug users
in the force. (nur)
