East Java Police Uncover Illegal SIM Card Publishing Syndicate Using Stolen IDs
Police seized tens of thousands of ready-to-distribute SIM cards, modem pools, laptops, and computer devices used to produce and sell OTP codes based on illegal data. The perpetrators now face up to 12 years in prison and fines of Rp 12 billion.
The Director of Cybercrime at East Java Police, Commissioner Bimo Ariyanto, stated that the discovery came after finding the issuance of SIM cards using data from other people. According to him, the suspects produced illegal SIM cards on a home industry scale.
“However, they used NIK data or personal data belonging to other people taken from a marketplace,” Bimo said during a press conference at the Cybercrime Directorate building of East Java Police on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
Bimo explained that the incident began in April 2026. At that time, personnel from the East Java Police Cybercrime Directorate detected a website named Fastbit.
Upon further investigation, it was found that the website sold SIM cards at very low prices. Subsequent checks and a series of investigations were conducted.
“Finally, we uncovered the syndicate, secured and arrested them in the Bali region,” he said.
Bimo mentioned that three people were secured. The details are two in Bali and one in South Kalimantan.
“Two people we secured in Bali and one person we secured in South Kalimantan,” he added.
