Surabaya (ANTARA) - The East Java Regional Police are conducting laboratory tests on a suspected narcotics find weighing 27.83 kilograms on the Giligenting coast in Sumenep to confirm the substance’s contents and support legal proof in the investigation process.

“The evidence has been sent to the East Java Police Forensic Laboratory to verify the substances inside and strengthen the legal proof process,” said East Java Police Chief Inspector General of Police Nanang Avianto in Surabaya on Thursday.

The discovery stemmed from a public report regarding a suspicious object at Pasir Putih Kahuripan Beach, Lombi Timur Hamlet, Gedugan Village, Giligenting Subdistrict, Sumenep Regency, on Monday (13/4) afternoon.

Following up on the report, officers from Giligenting Police Sector of the Sumenep Police Resort checked the scene around 4:15 p.m. WIB.

The officers found 23 plastic packages labelled “BUGATTI” suspected to contain narcotics.

Nine packages were inside a grey tarpaulin bag, while the other 14 were scattered around the location.

All evidence was then secured and handed over to the Sumenep Police Resort Narcotics Investigation Unit for further investigation and prosecution.

To date, the case remains in the investigation stage with no suspects designated.

East Java Police assured that the case handling is conducted professionally, transparently, and openly, with information disseminated quickly and accurately to the public via the media.

“We are also committed to continuously improving coordination and information services to the media so that every development can be conveyed accurately and balanced to the public,” Nanang stated.

The police chief also appreciated the active role of the community in providing information about the find and urged the public to continue synergising with authorities in eradicating drug trafficking.

“Public participation is very important in maintaining security and saving the nation’s generation from the dangers of drugs,” he said.
